Surgical Gloves

We recommend the two most common types of medical gloves which are examination gloves and surgical gloves. Examination gloves are used when the health worker is visiting a patient which could be then disposed once used. Manufactured from materials including Nitrile, vinyl, or latex they are available in multi-unit packaging for easy access. They are non-sterile devices, ambidextrous and with a smaller variety size such as XS, S, M, L, XL. Generally, examination gloves are usually thin (0.09 mm at fingertip) and their length allows low covering of the wrist (around 25 cm length).

These are protective equipment worn during medical invasive procedures to prevent patient contamination and exposure to potentially infectious material. Surgical gloves are by definition sterile and right and left-handed, manufactured with either latex or non-latex. They are packed at the pair level and have a wider variety of size from 5.5 up to 9. Surgical gloves are usually thicker.

Safety Visors (face shields)

The EU PPE Directive also covers hearing protection since workplace noise is also a significant health risk to humans. Hence, safety ear-muffs and earplugs placed in the EU market shall comply with the PPE Directive. However, earplugs that are not designed to protect against hazards, such as earplugs for sleeping, flying, or swimming are not considered as personal protective equipment. Therefore, for these specific products, it is not necessary to comply with PPE Directive.

Face shield should cover the front and sides of the wearer’s face extending its protection to both eyes and other facial areas. These come in two forms as reusable and disposable. As with goggles, safety visors with clear lenses and marked with the number “3” to indicate protections against droplets or splashes of liquids may be considered suitable for use against COVID-19
